Ricky Ponting backs Rishabh Pant's retention as captain | Day2Day Online Post

Ponting has told what has changed in Pant's as compared to earlier.

DC Vs SRH: In the Indian Premier League season 14, today there will be a competition between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite the return of Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals have decided to retain Rishabh Pant as the captain. Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting has praised Rishabh Pant. Ponting believes that Rishabh Pant's maturity level has increased a lot.

Ricky Ponting head coach of Delhi Capitals said, "When I first joined the team, he was a new player. I said that he is going to be someone who will play for India for a long time. I could feel his urge to make a place in every team of India.

Ponting believes that at the moment Pant cannot be dropped from Team India. Under Shreyas's captaincy, the team had finished runners-up last season but Ponting hopes that under Pant's leadership, the team will go a step further this time. Ponting said, "Pant has done a great job leading the team. We are all striving for something special. This year we want to go a step further and Rishabh is going to play an important role in this.”

How Pant had got Ponting's support?

In the absence of Shreyash Iyer, it was Ponting who supported Pant to be made the captain. Rishabh Pant has so far fully lived up to the expectations of the team. Under the leadership of Pant, Delhi Capitals remained on the first position in the points table by winning 6 out of 8 matches.

Ricky Ponting said, "Our team is better this year than last time. We have been focusing on this process for two-three years. We don't have to do too much this season in a different way from last year. We can continue with the same work and apply 10-15 percent additional thrust.

Ponting is happy to have Shreyas back in the team, which will strengthen the batting. The coach said, "I am happy to have Iyer back in the team. He has been an exceptional player for Delhi, a world-class player. It strengthens our team a little more.
